We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join us at our unique Head Office in Renfrew which includes our state-of-the-art gym with weekly circuit training, a personal trainer and yoga classes as well as the Beeks Bar or weekly masseuse to help you unwind!
Role Overview
The Network Design Engineer will be part of a team of technical experts managing Beeks’ global networks and be responsible for assisting with the technical delivery of all network services.
You will act as an authority for network queries including technical design, best practice and current deployment methodologies as well as act as an escalation point for our Network Operations.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Technical Director, Head of Architecture, Head of Project Management and wider NOC team to ensure that we maintain high service levels and uptime for all clients.
- Liaise with internal and external customers to understand technical requirements and resolve issues as quickly as possible and with minimum customer impact.
- Provision new services for Beeks customers (servers, firewalls, GRE tunnels, etc).
- Follow change control procedures and submit and defend changes at the weekly Change Advisory Board (CAB).
- Investigate and diagnose network related incidents reported by customers and liaise with transit providers and cross connect peers if necessary.
- Analyse and upgrade network resources where required. This includes router and switch upgrades, uplink upgrades, provisioning new point of presence locations.
- Deploy and maintain BGP sessions on trading, WAN and public network infrastructure.
- Manage the upstream traffic commit to make sure the bandwidth overage charges are minimised.
Key Objectives
- Maintain uptime for the Beeks network.
- Respond to customer queries in a timely manner adhering to contracted SLAs.
- Minimise unplanned outages by following change control procedures.
- Manage incidents where applicable and liaise with affected clients until fully resolved.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and maintain continuous professional development in line with company aims.
Skills & Experience Required
- Juniper Professional Level Certification (JNCIP) or similar Cisco experience.
- Strong technical background with routing and switching technologies.
- Strong understanding of the technologies and challenges in data centre environments supporting financial market services.
- Strong understanding of Juniper SRX security appliances.
- Thorough understanding of Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems.
- Experience of network design in large data centres and metro environments.
Desired Skills
- Juniper Expert Level Certification (JNCIE) or equivalent Cisco experience.
- Robust understanding of Juniper network environments (EX/QFX Switching, SRX Firewalls).
- Experience with Cisco/Arista low latency switching environments, including packet capture/tap aggregation for analysis of market trading data.
- Excellent understanding of network overlay technologies such as VXLAN/EVPN and experience in deployment and ongoing management.
- Experience with large scale service provider-type networks using MPLS or Segment Routing (SR/SRv6) Technologies to provide L2VPN or L3VPN services to clients.
- Experience with active/passive DWDM systems and managing optical budgets.
- Network Automation/Programming using Python and/or other scripting languages.
